Celebrating '10 Years of Step into Health' at the House of Lords
This week, we had the honour of attending the "10 Years of Step into Health" celebration at the House of Lords, representing Sisters in Service. The event marked a decade of commitment to helping veterans transition into fulfilling NHS careers, an initiative that has empowered thousands and enriched healthcare teams with the unique strengths that veterans bring.
The House of Lords offered a distinguished and historic setting, perfect for reflecting on the successes and impact of Step into Health over the years. Listening to leaders from the NHS, as well as veterans who shared their personal journeys, highlighted how valuable these career transitions can be—not only for the individuals but for the entire healthcare community.
Representing Sisters in Service was a proud moment, particularly as I witnessed discussions on the future of the program and how we, as a community, can further support women veterans in these career pathways. The stories shared today affirmed the importance of expanding initiatives that understand and address the specific challenges veterans face in transitioning to civilian careers, especially those balancing family and other commitments.
The atmosphere was one of both celebration and forward-looking commitment. As we look to the future of Step into Health, Sisters in Service will continue to champion these efforts, helping ensure that all veterans—especially women—have the opportunity to thrive in civilian roles that truly value their contributions.
