Running into 2026

Bex pledges to run the London Marathon in a weighted vest to raise funds for Sisters in Service

If you know me at all, you’ll know that I have an impressive talent for signing myself up for things that are wildly uncomfortable and then wondering, halfway through, why on earth I thought it was a good idea. Which brings me neatly to this challenge.

In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise money for Sisters in Service. Because simply running 26.2 miles apparently isn’t enough, I’ll be doing it in a weighted vest.

Yes, on purpose.

Yes, I have checked: no one is forcing me. I am, quite clearly, a glutton for punishment!

Why the weighted vest? It’s a small way of symbolising the extra weight so many women veterans carry - the physical, emotional, and societal burdens that often go unseen. Sisters in Service aim to support women veterans, and I’m proud (and slightly terrified) to be fundraising so we can continue our work.

Training has already begun, which means my life currently revolves around long runs, questionable life choices, and discovering muscles I didn’t know I had. Some runs feel strong. Others feel like I’m dragging a small wardrobe around with me while questioning all my decisions. Both are character building, apparently.

If you’d like to support the cause, donating to Sisters in Service would mean the world to me. And if you’d like to laugh with me (or at me), you can follow us on Instagram, where I’ll be sharing weekly run updates, training highs, lows, and inevitable moments of regret.
